This article: http://www.observer.com/2010/real-estate/‘bohemia’-or-bust-billyburg’s-58-metropolitan-self-mythologizes

The reporter, William Alden, went to what is supposed to be a decent school, Yale, and works for a decent paper.  A friend of mine, a very good friend of mine, Willaim Essig was the editor of the Yale Daily News where William Alden was a writer. But in my conversation with Alden he purposefully wanted to stay ignorant of his beat – real estate and, in particular, the building he was covering, 58 Metropolitan. 58 Metropolitan is the sister building to 80 Metropolitan; both are from the same developer and offer the same amenity spaces, so at least 35% of the party goers that he writes about were owners at 80 Met. As invited guests (IT WAS OUR OWN BUILDING!!!), we were there not just for fun and games, but for perhaps the only chance we would have to the meet the developer of our building, Douglas Steiner, to congratulate him on the good work he did and pose some, what to us, are important questions to him.

We then, at the event, had met some neighbors who bought condos in the tall water front building a block away, that was developed by the Toll Brothers, and they were going to check out the event their developer, The Toll Brothers, were hosting at the nearby Northside Piers, one block away. Just as they joined us for our building’s marketing party to check things out, they invited us to their marketing party.b We tried to explain to Will Alden who the Toll Brothers were, who didnt know or want to know so he simply wrote down we were going to attend an event an hour away by subway at the Chelsea Piers. (His editor made him change this portion to properly reflect the piers we were thinking of going to)

Alden didn’t properly examine the group sociology of the party. Only four groups: developer, brokers, buyers, and existing owners at 80 Met were at the party. And he kept asking the same questions of the developer about the name of his company while being completely ignorant about who was at the event and why they were at the event.

The article was a dishonest presentation of the interaction I had with the blackbook staffer. First, you will see several places in the article where a name is blanked out, that name is “Paul Sevigny.” The authors made it seem I was trying reach Steve Lewis, I already had Steve’s number and called him that night. Second, they deleted about 50% of the texts where in one instance the staffer told me to do drugs and I said I am into a pure, vegan lifestyle and actually questioned the authenticity of the beatrice inn concept of attempting to  resemble an intimate living room.
